Photograms

photogram is a photographic image made without a camera by placing objects directly onto the surface of a light-sensitive material such as photographic paper and then exposing it to light. The usual result is a negative shadow image that shows variations in tone that depends upon the transparency of the objects used. Areas of the paper that have received no light appear white; those exposed through transparent or semi-transparent objects appear grey.

I personally enjoyed this process, it brings out a very interesting effect and it allows you to experiment with different materials to give different effects and make many types of image.

Makoto Shinkai

Recently I have discovered a Japanese Anime movie director called Makoto Shinkai. After watching a film of his called 5 Centimetres per second I was hooked, its not the story which attracts me to his work, it is the stunning visual he creates in his movies.

After his second piece of work/ his first feature length movie he had gained himself the the title of "The Next Miyazaki" by many critics. Anyone familiar with Studio Ghibli will know that Hayao Miyazaki is the great director behind many of their most well know films such as Spirited Away, My Neighbour Totoro and Howls's Moving Castle and also one of the studios founders.
